The Thing That Made The Chicken Go, "WOO!"

Farmer Brown heard a sound that he had never heard before!

What could have made the chicken make such an odd sound?

The Thing That Made The Chicken Go... "Woo!"

The other day on the farm,

There was an interesting sound.

It floated past the barn,

And all across the ground.

It jumped over the fence,

And shook all the big trees.

And made Old Farmer Brown

Fall right down to his knees!

It was a very odd sound.

One he’d never heard before.

So, he grabbed his straw hat

And rushed off to explore!

He ran all around the farm,

Checking each of his friends.

From the horse in the stable,

To the pig in the pen.

But, everything seemed fine.

Nothing odd could be found.

Then, as he walked past the hen house,

Again came that sound!

It wasn’t a horse saying, “Neigh!”

Or a cow saying, “Moo!”

It wasn’t a duck saying, “Quack!”

It was a chicken saying, “WOO!”

“No, no!” he said.

“That’s just not right!

Chickens say, “Cluck!”

From morning to night!”

But, this day on that farm,

Was quite different than the rest.

And Farmer Brown understood

As he looked in the nest.

Under a very shocked chicken,

It’s eyes wide with surprise,

Farmer Brown took an egg

And widened HIS eyes!

It LOOKED like an egg…

It was oval and white.

But, something was different.

Something really not right!

The egg was quite large…

And covered in spots.

He couldn’t even count them

But he knew there were lots!

It was rough. It was bumpy.

And was quite pointy, too!

And he knew this was the thing

That made the chicken go, “WOO!”
